We have full control over the curation of our product.
At Matangi, while beef is our cornerstone, we recognize the essential role of our woolly companions—our lambs—in shaping the landscape of our farm. Just like our beef, every Matangi lamb is thoughtfully bred and carefully raised to ensure an exceptional dining experience for our clients.
We are proud of our Romney ewe flock, known for their tender, flavourful meat. Their high-quality fleece and excellent mothering skills make them a valuable part of our operation. To enhance the quality of our lamb product, we’ve selected Kelso Prime Q Rams, renowned for their high intramuscular fat (IMF) content, ensuring rich, juicy meat.
Our lambs are certified 100% grass-fed, GMO-free, and antibiotic-free, offering you a pure and natural product. To give them the perfect finish, we graze them on chicory for at least 35 days. Chicory provides excellent nutrition, helping our lambs stay healthy and develop flavourful meat with a naturally higher Omega-3 content.
Our Matangi Lamb is carefully prepared each week to our clients specifications by our in-house butchery team.
We’re dedicated to bringing you lamb that’s bred with purpose, grown with patience and crafted with precision, for a truly premium eating experience.
The Matangi Principle is very clear: full control over breeding, animal wellbeing, farming practices and the butchering process. Quality not quantity!- ROBERT HASELSTEINER
From the backdrop of the Tuki Tuki River
Matangi is a place of mystic beauty – craggy mountain ranges, gentle rolling hills, fertile river flats, fresh spring water, native bush and 2.5 kilometres of river frontage. Our land is a paradise for our animals and for us. Matangi is the Maori word for breeze – just what we need during long hot Hawke’s Bay summers.
