The best grass-fed Angus Beef for Kiwi meat lovers.
We are a family owned boutique cattle station focused solely on quality, with no compromises at any step along the way.
We only produce beef which has been bred and grown on our two properties. We select the breeding of our animals to produce optimum eating quality in our beef. We aim for high intramuscular fats (marbling), and ultimately a tender product full of flavour.
Our 100% grass fed Angus cattle are grown on our two properties for 24-32 months. They spend their life in a low stress environment where they are free to roam with their same mates for the duration of their life.
Matangi Angus Beef is hung on the bone for three weeks allowing flavour and tenderness to develop. Our Master Butcher then carefully prepares the cuts to our clients specifications.
The Matangi Principle is very clear: full control over breeding, animal wellbeing, farming practices and the butchering process. Quality not quantity!- ROBERT HASELSTEINER
We always have four generations on the farm.
Cows and bulls, calves, yearlings and two-year olds, keeping farm manager Jamie busy, but he loves every minute of it. We love our Angus cattle, and we are proud of them. Raising them from birth to strong two-year old steers and heifers is done with passion and dedication by farm manager, Jamie Gaddum.
First, our calves run with their mothers and after weaning (the day of adolescence when they leave mum behind) they run in closed herds with their peers of the same age. On the Matangi properties they move around a lot enjoying lush grass and good water with the least amount of stress possible, at all ages. Yard times are minimal and optimal animal healthcare is paramount and of course our cattle are free of steroids, hormones and antibiotics.
We treat our cattle with respect as we want them to have the perfect life, over the time they are with us.
From the backdrop of the Tuki Tuki River
Matangi is a place of mystic beauty – craggy mountain ranges, gentle rolling hills, fertile river flats, fresh spring water, native bush and 2.5 kilometres of river frontage. Our land is a paradise for our animals and for us. Matangi is the Maori word for breeze – just what we need during long hot Hawke’s Bay summers.
